Some songs almost write themselves, and this was one of them. I wrote it in the aftermath of Glenn Frey’s passing, I’d read an article in Rolling Stone that said his songs made you feel like you were on the open road, and while I didn’t really agree with that generalization, I liked the title and the idea.  I’d been reading about Neil Peart’s year-long travels on his motorcycle after the passing of his daughter and wife, and how it helped him heal and move on.  I liked the idea of the road as a means of redemption.
